Ms. Lyssa started her Suzuki violin lessons at age 4. Originally from Charlotte, she completed the Suzuki repertoire then attended the prestigious UNCSA for high school. She holds a Masters from The New School ( Mannes College) in NYC and has studied with the finest Galamian schooled instructors in the USA and Europe. As a Suzuki teacher, she incorporates this valuable knowledge in her music lessons with the classic Suzuki foundation.
Her students have become concertmasters of their middle and high school orchestras, earning multiple superior with distinctions at Solo Ensemble competitions, as well acceptance to All-County, All-State and Houston's Kinder High School of the performing arts. Her former students have gone from beginning violin and piano lessons to become doctors, lawyers, engineers and professional musicians.
She has had exciting studios in Japan, NC, FL and as of 2019 Texas. She is a long standing member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and most from her studio in Houston. She is member of the Texas Music Educators Association, very long standing member of the Suzuki Association of Americas and the local Southeast Texas Suzuki Association.
Lyssa holds a Texas standard teacher certificate and is currently teaching in the Houston area public school system.
Lyssa has three boys in college. She loves dogs and has two crazy Flat Coat retrievers, Winston & Charlotte.
